Action Alert: Moms Need Help Now, Yes Now

Mom Congress

Action Alert

It’s time to Act to Save and Support Mothers, it’s time to #UseYourMomVoice:

With a few clicks of a button, you can write to your Senators and tell them to immediately pass HR 4996, the Helping MOMS Act.

The bill allows states to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 days to a full year.

This change will remove barriers that prevent new mothers from getting necessary care during a critical time – the data show that nearly one-third of all pregnancy-related deaths occur 43 to 365 days postpartum.

The House passed the bill in September, and now it is time for the Senate to act and make sure HR 4996 becomes law this year. As the bill has been amended to remove the financial obligations originally included in the bill, the Senate has signaled that passage of the bill is possible. This is an important first step in closing gaps in maternal health.

It’s important that all of you message your senators, though it’s particularly important that those of you in these states (with Senators who sit on the Senate Finance committee) take action:

IA, ID, GA, IN, KS, LA, MT, NC, NE, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TX, WY

Want to go further?

Post a message to your Senator’s Facebook page or Tweet her/him.

@ xxx As a constituent who cares about the health and well being of moms, it’s critical that our Federal government support the Helping MOMS Act, so states can provide health insurance coverage to moms through 12 months after giving birth. #ItsTimeToSupportMoms
