2023 MOM CONGRESS PAST Events

Town Hall #1 November 9th

On November 9th, our Town Hall featured Dr. Judette Louis, Department Chair for the Department of OB/GYN at University of South Florida and a specialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine, and former President of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine. She reviewed the recently updated SMFM poster of recommended vaccines during pregnancy.

We also welcomed Katherine “Katie” Herring Capps, co-founder and board member of the Washington-based Get the Medications Right Institute (GTMRx) and founder and president of Health2 Resources. She reviewed the findings of the GTMRx National Task Force titled 'Building Vaccine Confidence in the Neighborhood.'

Town Hall #2 November 16th

On Thursday, November 16th, we welcomed Beth Battaglino, founder and CEO of the HealthyWomen brand. She joined us to present HealthyWomen's Perceptions of Vaccines During Pregnancy, a survey of U.S. patients & providers. 

Joining us from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were Dr. Lakshmi Panagiotakopoulos and Dr. Katherine Fleming-Dutra, who brought the latest insights from both the COVID-19 vaccine Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices Work Group and Vaccine Effectiveness and Policy Team in the Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division. 

Dr. Dennie Rogers joined us from Rockford, IL, where she is Division Director for Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Co-Director for the Administrative Perinatal Center for the Northwest Illinois Perinatal Center.

Mom Congress Hill Day 2023

Mom Congress is both a movement and a moment. Mom Congress members and advocates joined us for the Mom Congress “Moment” this September in DC. This convening brought mothers and other advocates together to learn, receive issue and advocacy training, be inspired by influential leaders, to connect with others, and advocate for change on Capitol Hill.

Musical Healing Session

Mom Congress Members and guests were invited to join us for a musical healing session with singer-songwriter, lesha Sturdivant aka Esh The Singer. We explored extraordinary elements of music, while examining the importance of our own emotions and behaviors.

Birthing Justice Screening

Who: Mom Congress Members were invited to join their community for a virtual private screening of an abbreviated version of BIRTHING JUSTICE, a feature-length documentary discussing the issues fueling the maternal health crisis within the African American community and advocating for best practices to enhance birthing equity for all women, especially Black women. Mom Congress Member Danielle Jones lead us in a mindful moment ahead of our community discussion and Esh the Singer closed out the program in healing song.

Maternal Health Awareness Day 2023

January 23, 2023 - Maternal Health Awareness Day

Mom Congress Members are invited to join us on Maternal Health Awareness Day 2023 to kick off our advocacy efforts with the 118th Congress. We will gather together virtually on 1/23 for a working session where you will be invited to introduce (or reintroduce) yourself to your elected officials and to present the policy priorities we will be advancing with them throughout the year. 

The Mom Congress team will have scripts for both your calls and follow up emails, we look forward to advocating with you.
