2021 Virtual Advocacy Days FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Must I be a Mom Congress member to participate?

A: No! But we highly encourage everyone to become a member. Sign up for an annual membership at just $45 (scholarships available for those with a financial need).

Q: What are the bills/topics we will advocate for?

A: This event will focus on several priority health bills from the Mom Congress Momnibus. You will be given a selection of bills to advocate for when you register.

Q: Do I get to meet w/ my legislator(s)?

A: Appointments are generally with the staff (“staffers”) of House of Representatives members and sometimes Senators (since there are only two senators per state senate meetings can be very difficult to schedule, even with staff). We will generally be meeting with the legislator’s health staff, who are the team experts in the policy area. The elected officials themselves are busy with floor votes, committee meetings, etc.

Q: I’m nervous, do I need to be an expert in policy?

A: We understand! We were nervous the first time we met with legislative offices, too. You need not be an expert in policy or politics - your elected officials can’t wait to meet with and hear about you and your ask(s).

Meetings occur in small groups of 3-6 people and each team will have a team leader. You will never be alone and if you wish to simply introduce yourself this year and skip sharing bill information that’s ok, your team lead can share details. Our goal is to empower moms to get involved meeting with elected officials so we can directly help shape policy.

Q: I do not see the Working Moms Caucus represented in this subset of bills, how can I participate in advocating for Working Moms?

A: We are focusing our efforts on Health Staffers for this virtual hill day event. Anyone interested in securing a meeting with your legislator’s office to speak about Working Moms - Paid Family Leave and Affordable Childcare that has not already done so may email Bekah@Mom-Congress.com to set up a meeting.
